Actually, I did use the faxback system to get the info. Problem with this is that it is unlikely that you will *ever* get exactly the same configuration that Novell Labs tested, UnixWare supports IDE devices only grudgingly, in my opinion, and Novell would much rather have you install SCSI devices. Also true.

Since MS are no-longer going to support W9x why install a defunct operating system. They are still supporting it now. When they finally come out with the home You need to install a SCSI driver in my case and configure it with the CD ROM driver. Even with IDE drives you still had to have a CD ROM boot disk.

In fact, the installation of a SCSI device or the host adapter itself in the middle of a cable would be impossible without them. The manufacturers of HAs and SCSI Ethernet systems using coaxial cable have very similar restrictions for the same transmission line related reasons. If you draw a simplified cable

To install SCSI disk driver instead of IDE disk driver ? Or both? Hell, even DOS can use both IDE and SCSI devices at the same time. Wait, that should be a shitty SCSI disk driver But GNU Emacs is my editor of choice - too bad I can't find any decent implementation of it on anything but a UN*X-like system.

If you don't like to be limited to have upto 4 HDDs on DOS/Windows machines, you should install a SCSI controller. :) But for most users, it is not in their sight. :) ) I'm writing a Java program which let me see the list of a directory on "Host" computer. I think it would be impossible.

Under NT, if you install a ATAPI/IDE CD drive, the generic driver is called the atapi.sys for the actual drive and cdfs.sys for the file system on the CD. If you install a SCSI CD drive, the driver for the CD drive is just the cdfs.sys plus whatever driver is being used by the SCSI controller.

If I want to install a SCSI card I'll have to remove something. Probably the scanner (it has its own interface card), and go for a SCSI scanner later on. Those shouldnt consume all the IRQs in a modern PCI system unless you have lots of com and printer ports each with its own IRQ assigned.
